Associate Professor of Physics at Monmouth College |
Like many kids, I was interested in a wide range of questions about the world. I wanted to know why the sky is blue, how the Moon changes shape, why things fall down. In high school, I was attracted to physics as a way of finding out more about these questions. I attended Grinnell College and realized that in addition to learning more about the universe, I also wanted to use this knowledge to directly improve lives. At a summer research program, I first heard about medical physics and realized that this field would be a perfect fit for my desire to help others. I spent a year at Wolfram Research, Inc. as a technical support engineer for Mathmatica and then attended the University of Wisconsin and obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Physics in August 2005.
I have been a professor since 2008. For two years, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor at DePauw University, then joined the faculty of Monmouth College in 2010. Since August 2015, I have been an Associate Professor at Monmouth College. My main activity as a professor at liberal arts college is teaching. I teach a wide variety of courses, not only in the Physics department, but also through the Integrated Studies requirement at Monmouth College. My main research area has been medical ultrasound imaging, but I have also served as a mentor on many other physics related projects.
